The Posh Weekly - 19-June-2013

Vital Posh looks at the latest news coming out of Peterborough United over the past week and also what their rival teams in League One are up to.

LEAGUE FIXTURES ANNOUNCED

The Football League fixtures were released this morning [Wednesday, 19th June]. Posh have been dealt home fixtures on both the opening day of the season against Swindon Town and the final day of the season against Port Vale.

Other notable fixtures are:

MK Dons - 21-Sep (h); 15-Mar (a)
Wolves - 30-Nov (h); 5-Apr (a)
Stevenage - 23-Nov (h); 22-Feb(a)
Boxing Day - Coventry City (a)
New Year`s Day - Brentford (h)

ZAKUANI BATTLES TO ANOTHER DRAW

DR Congo

DR Congo played out a second successive goalless draw with Gaby Zakuani at the heart of their defence.

Playing the pre-match group leaders, Cameroon, Zakuani and his teammates fought out a tight battle which ended goalless.

The result means DR Congo can no longer qualify for the next stage of the African World Cup Group qualifiers leaving Cameroon and Libya to battle it out for the one place available in their group in their final match against each other.

CAPITAL ONE CUP AWAY DAY

Capital One Cup

Posh have been drawn away in the first round of the Capital One Cup.

With the match to be played during the week commencing 5th August, Posh will travel to the Weston Homes Community Stadium to face fellow League One side Colchester United.

POSH TRANSFER UPDATE

There has been no movement again this week in or out of the club.

Posh have accepted bids from two League One teams for striker Emile Sinclair but he couldn`t agree terms with either club.

Leeds United have expressed an interest in Tommy Rowe but have admitted they can`t afford him while Posh are still getting enquiries surrounding Dwight Gayle.

Two teams have also enquired about transfer listed Nicky Ajose while two teams have also enquired after Lee Tomlin and Nathanial Mendez-Laing.

Mark Little looks set to depart London Road when his contract expires at the end of June even though his agent originally said that he would be signing the three year contract offered to him by Posh. Little has since discussed the situation with Darren Ferguson but has told the Posh boss that he won`t be signing the contract.

Posh currently have 6 players on the transfer list; all of who have a price tag on their head.

The six players are: Gaby Zakuani, Tommy Rowe, Tyrone Barnett, Emile Sinclair, Danny Kearns and Nicky Ajose.

PRE-SEASON FRIENDLIES

The third home pre-season friendly has yet to be announced but there are two home games and a tour of Ireland to look forward to.

A friendly has also been arranged against Bedford Town on Saturday 27th July but confirmation of this match is still to be made by either club.

The confirmed home pre-season matches are:

Saturday, 13th July - QPR
Monday, 29th July - Hull City

The Republic of Ireland tour covers the following matches:

Monday, 2nd July - Shelbourne
Tuesday, 3rd July - UCD

LEAGUE ONE ROUND-UP

Former Posh striker Paul Taylor has admitted causing actual bodily harm to an Ipswich pub doorman. He is due to be sentenced later this month. He has played only three matches for the Tractor Boys since his move from Posh but he has been out injured with a broken foot.

The administrators of Coventry City have finally announced who is to take over the club. Otium Entertainment Group won the bidding with the highest offer. Funnily enough, Otium are the parent company of Coventry City Holdings Ltd which is the part of the club that is not in administration!
