Posh Hit Brentford For Seven!

Peterborough battered Brentford 7-0 on Saturday, in the process equalling the worst ever defeat they suffered by their visitors.

Brentford got off to the worst possible start, having goalkeeper Simon Brown sent off in the second minute when conceding a penalty, Aaron McLean converted (3) then went on to complete a first half hat trick (14 and 41) to get things going. Chris Whelpdale (45), George Boyd (49), Craig Mackail-Smith (56) and Rene Howe (76) completed the scoring. Boyd also had another goal disallowed.

Understandably Peterborough boss Darren Ferguson was more than pleased, as he told the Peterborough website: "We were absolutely outstanding - no-one would have lived with us today.

"You don't get days like that very often, but people have been saying that we were due to give someone a spanking.

"They were spot-on in training during the week but I was absolutely delighted with the performance - it sends out a statement when you win 7-0."

A defeat for the table topping Milton Keynes Dons allowed Ferguson's men to close the gap to 4 points, with one of the favourites for the League Two title now sitting in 5th place in the table.
