Ref Watch: Peterborough United v Scunthorpe United
The man in charge of the Sky Bet League One match between Peterborough United and Scunthorpe United at the ABAX Stadium is TREVOR KETTLE.
Rutland-based official Trevor Kettle is tasked with taking charge of the clash between play-off chasing Posh and a side sitting in fourth place in League One, Scunthorpe United.
The experienced referee has taken charge of 15 Posh matches over the years dating back to 2003 with Posh winning 11 of those matches but they did lose the last match that Kettle officiated.
That match was back in November when struggling Blackpool rocked up at the ABAX Stadium and went away with all three points following a one-nil victory courtesy of a strike by former Posh forward Kyle Vassell in the 12th minute.
Despite the impressive record under the officiating of Kettle, he is not the best official and that was evident in this defeat to the Tangerines as the visitors constantly time wasted while also making cynical fouls, both of which went unpunished by Kettle! Three yellow cards were dished out during the game with Ryan Tafazolli picking up the only card for Posh.
The match on Tuesday evening will be Kettle`s third visit to the ABAX this season. Prior to that defeat to the Tangerines, Kettle officiated the Checkatrade Trophy group match between Posh and the under 21 side of Southampton. Posh caught the Saints youngsters cold as they came out for the match all guns blazing scoring two goals within the first 21 minutes of the match via Junior Morias and Marcus Maddison to wrap up a two-nil victory. Posh also picked up the only yellow card of the match which went to Chris Forrester.
The last time Scunthorpe had the pleasure of Kettle was also in the same competition when they hosted Leicester City under 21`s. The Iron came out on the wrong side of a two-one defeat with both sides sharing the four yellow cards issued during the game.
While Posh have a good record with Kettle as the match official, the same can`t be said for the Iron! The defeat to the young Foxes was one of six defeats they`ve suffered in 17 matches officiated by Kettle while drawing eight others!
So far this season, Kettle has officiated 28 matches issuing 99 yellow cards and five red cards.
His highest card count for a match this season is 7 cards in a match which has happened twice.
The first time was early in the season in the EFL Cup between Grimsby Town and Derby County. Both sides picked up three yellow cards each while the Mariners Ben Davies received his marching orders 10 minutes after Matej Vydra had scored the only goal from the penalty spot in the 53rd minute.
The second time came at the start of the September when Crawley Town hosted Yeovil Town in a League Two clash. Jordan Roberts scored a goal in both halves for the hosts while they also picked up four of the seven yellow cards dished out in the game.
The last match Kettle officiated came just over a week ago in the League One match between Bristol Rovers and Shrewsbury Town. Both sides picked up one yellow card in the match which was goalless at half-time. Omar Beckles gave the Shrews the lead just after the hour mark but the Pirates struck back three minutes later through Joe Partington. The Shrews had the last laugh though as they hit the winner two minutes from time from midfielder Alex Rodman.
His statistics for the last few seasons in the Football League are:
2017/18 - 28 matches - 14 home wins - 10 away wins - 4 draws
2016/17 - 35 matches - 16 home wins - 11 away wins - 8 draws
