Vital Posh MOTM v Plymouth Argyle Poll

Rate the Peterborough United players as the Vital Posh Man of the Match Poll for the Sky Bet EFL League One match against Plymouth Argyle is now up and running.

Posh started the season with a victory over a Plymouth Argyle side that will win more matches than they lose based on their performance against Posh.

Argyle were unfortunate to go in at half-time a goal down after a Leo Da Silve Lopes cross was diverted into the Argyle net after only four minutes of the match.

Posh played much better in the second half but were thwarted by strange decisions from the referee; as were the Pilgrims.

Debutant loanee Jonathan Bond made some outstanding saves for Posh but on the down side, his distribution, especially his kicking was woeful.

The back three of Jack Baldwin, Ryan Tafazolli and former Newcastle United captain Steven Taylor, who was also making his league debut for Posh, all looked assured but the defensive weakness is currently in the wing-backs.

While Da Silva Lopes and Gwion Edwards are good going forward, they both need to improve on their defensive side. Taylor`s experience showed as he was excellent with Da Silva Lopes as he was often telling him what to do defensively.

The central midfield pairing also looks to be a strong one. Anthony Grant, who was our man of the match, played a very clever game. He dominated the midfield although the constant battering he got from the opposition wasn`t always picked up by the referee which seemed to get him frustrated which eventually resulted in a few rash challenges and a yellow card.

His midfield partner, Michael Doughty, was another of the seven players who were making their league debut for Posh. He is another on who looks confident on the ball and who pick up a decent amount of goals along the way. He was unfortunate not to open his account against Plymouth after an excellent build up saw his effort well saved by Luke McCormick.

Marcus Maddison was his usual self of excellence and muppetry but he was often the main source of the attacking play by Posh. If he does eventually go elsewhere, Posh will be much poorer for it!

Up front, we had the diminutive pairing of Junior Morias and Jack Marriott. The latter set up the former for the second goal for Posh under dubious circumstances. Marriott robbed an Argyle defender who fell over like a sack of spuds hoping to get a freekick when Marriott closed in on him. For once, it was good to see both the referee and linesman not be fooled by a player trying to con themselves to a freekick!

On the balance of play, a draw may have been the correct result but it`s all about putting the ball in the back of the net!

What did you think to the performances of the Posh players and Grant McCann?
