Peterborough United are in negotiations with Nuneaton Town over defender Alex Penny.

Posh had hoped to introduce a new player at the weekend when they entertained Championship side QPR but it appears negotiations aren't proceeding as quickly as they had hoped!

Nuneaton Town, who lost in a friendly to Posh last week, are the club involved as Posh are interested in their defender Alex Penny. Posh boss Grant McCann confirmed that the club were 'in discussions' with Nuneaton's Alex Penny but as yet, nothing has been agreed.

The delays may be down to the fact that Premiership clubs Leicester City, Stoke City and West Bromwich Albion have all shown an interest in the defender in the past and one of them may come back with a bid in the knowledge that Posh have already seen a bid rejected! Tottenham Hotspur were also rumoured to be interested in the defender earlier this year!

Can Posh pinch Alex Penny before any other clubs come in for him who may have a more financial clout? Posh have done it in the past so they could do it again.

Posh are expected to play three at the back this season and they have plenty of players to fill those three places. Captain Jack Baldwin and Ryan Tafazolli are expected to fill two of those spots regularly so it will be a battle between the other players to win that last spot.

If Posh sign Penny, will he be another who will be looking to fill that final back three spot or, as he can fulfil a number of different roles, could we see him also battle it out for a wing-back slot?
