Peterborough United blew the cobwebs away in their first pre-season match against St Albans.

Posh played their first game of pre-season at St Albans and came away with a comfortable looking 4-1 victory.

Two separate Posh sides played 45 minutes each although the first-half side produced a very disjointed display! The main highlight of that first-half were the impressive passes from new recruit Michael Doughty along with the odd dangerous run from fit-again Gwion Edwards.

Posh lined up with their expected new formation - 3-5-2 or 3-4-1-2 (whichever way you look at it). The new formation combined with new recruits and the first match of pre-season produced that disjointed performance in the first half but the first few games are more about getting minutes into the legs of the players.

The cobwebs were blown away but only after Leo Da Silva Lopes, playing as a right wing-back, grappled his man to the floor in the area to concede a penalty just over halfway through the half. Posh got themselves level just a couple of minutes before half-time when a delightful pass from trialist Liam Shephard played in former St Albans striker Junior Morias [pictured above] to blast the ball into the roof of the net.

The second-half Posh team received a talk from Grant McCann at half-time which highlighted the things that didn`t go too well in the first half and it certainly paid off as Posh started very strongly.

Within three minutes, new signing Danny Lloyd [pictured above] had opened his account for Posh with a direct freekick before new striker Ricky Miller made it three-one to Posh with another freekick.

Miller [pictured above] notched his second of the game just 90 seconds later with a delightful chip in to the top corner of the net after the ball had been nodded down to him.

Although Posh cruised through the rest of the match, this was about building up match fitness so it was mission accomplished on that respect. The link up play between Miller, Lloyd and Tom Nichols shows a lot of potential also while youngsters Lewis Freestone and Andrea Borg looked good in their wing-back positions.

Up next is a trip to Nuneaton Town on Tuesday where the players will again be split into two separate teams so they can get another 45 minutes under their belt.
