Vital Posh MOTM -Vs- Preston North End (Poll)

The Vital Posh Man of the Match Poll is now up and running for the Sky Bet League One clash between Preston North End and Peterborough United.

Danny Swanson and Nicky Ajose celebrate v Preston

Darren Ferguson sprung a surprise by naming Mark Little as captain instead of Michael Bostwick who normally stands in when Tommy Rowe doesn`t play.

He also changed the formation to something like 3-5-1-1 with Ajose playing just behind the poor Assombalonga.

The defence didn`t look as strong as it has in the past when playing three at the back but it didn`t stop Posh from taking the lead after only 18 minutes. Nicky Ajose capitalised on a poor ball from the home side to play in Danny Swanson who struck an excellent shot from distance.

Posh coped well defensively and limited the home side in the first half but they gave them acres of space on the stroke of half-time which Paul Gallagher used before playing the ball to the unmarked Neil Kilkenny to blast the ball past Bobby Olejnik for his first goal for the club.

Posh picked up the pace a bit in the second half and created a number of chances with scrambles in the goalmouth which sadly always ended up being cleared. If luck wasn`t on Posh`s side it certainly was for Preston. A 20-yard curler from Paul Gallagher hit the Posh woodwork with the ball rebounding to the feet of top scorer Joe Garner who had the easy task of tapping the ball home!

Garner completed the scoring in injury time when he blasted the ball into the roof of the net to give the home side a flattering scoreline.

With Wembley coming up on Sunday, Britt Assombalonga is the only recognised striker eligible to play for Posh so it would`ve made sense to bring Assombalonga off in the second half to give him a rest. Surprisingly, it was Nicky Ajose, who had caused the home side many problems throughout the game, who was substituted instead of his poor performing fellow striker!

What did you think to the overall performances of the players and manager Darren Ferguson?

Rate the players below and the player with the best rating will win the Man of the Match.

The poll is open until noon on Tuesday [1st April].
