There have been nineteen League matches between these two sides with Posh being the dominant force in the matches. They`ve won nine of these matches compared to Preston`s four wins! Six matches have ended in a draw.

It`s been very even at Deepdale with Preston have beaten Posh three times, Posh winning three times with the other three matches ending in a draw.

The last time Posh played at Deepdale was back in the 2009/10 season when goals from Neil Mellor and Billy Jones in the first half sealed a 2-0 victory.

The corresponding fixture in October finished in a 2-0 victory for Posh and again all the goals were scored in the first half. Tyrone Barnett put Posh ahead as he snapped up a rebound from the goalkeeper before Grant McCann wrapped up the scoring on the half-hour mark.

Preston v Posh 2009-10 programme

Preston maintained their unbeaten start to the season with an easy win against Posh, but they lost midfielder Barry Nicholson to a broken leg.

Neil Mellor opened the scoring with a neat finish at the near post before Nicholson was injured during an innocuous challenge on George Boyd in the 23rd minute. Boyd was able to continue but Nicholson was stretchered off with a leg brace on. Nicholson was booked by referee David Webb as he was stretchered from the field of play.

Preston doubled their advantage when Mellor turned provider on the half hour, slipping in full-back Billy Jones who powered a rare goal past Joe Lewis.

Posh improved in the second half but, as we`ve seen plenty of times, they were unable to find a breakthrough.
