Peterborough United have signed an 18-year-old Portuguese central defender but he`s "one for the future".

Ricardo Santos signs 3.5 year deal - 05-Feb-2014

The youngster played in the 3-1 win for the Posh Development side against St Neots last week before joining up with the squad for training on Thursday.

The 6ft 5in teenager has been with Dagenham and Redbridge as well as Dover Athletic prior to playing for Ryman Isthmian North Division side Thurrock.

He has played 24 times for Thurrock this season and it is believed a number of Premiership and Football League sides were monitoring his progress.

He is pleased to have signed for Posh as he said: "I like to think I can bring a physical side to the team, I am 6'5 and I still think I am growing. I am really pleased to be at Peterborough, I know a few of the lads already and the club is very ambitious. I am pleased to be here."

Darren Ferguson commented on his new recruit: "He came to our attention through the Thurrock manager Mark Stimson, someone we have a good relationship with and he came in and trained with us on Monday. He played against St. Neots and did well. He is a great size, but he has good feet, looks after the ball fine.

"He is one for the future, but one that we know that a lot of clubs were looking at. Potentially, we feel he is a good signing for the football club."
