Sunderland v Peterborough United - Preview
Capital One Cup Third Round match preview between the Black Cats and the Posh.
Sunderland v Pet erborough United
Location: Stadium of Light
Date: 24th September, 2013
Posh travel north looking to take a Premiership scalp in their third round Capital One Cup match with Sunderland.
Sunderland won their second round tie after coming back from two-goals down with twelve minutes to play to run out 4-2 winners over MK Dons.
Posh beat the Dons on Saturday in the League but it is their Cup form they`d like to see return especially after beating Reading 6-0 in the last round!
HEAD TO HEAD
There have only been 6 compeitive matches played between these two sides down the years and not surprisingly, the Black Cats have won five of them!
The only time Posh have managed a win over Sunderland came in the 1992/93 League Division One season when they won 5-2 at London Road.
The last time Posh played at Sunderland was the following season when they lost 2-0.

Kevin Ball will take charge of his first match as interim head coach following the sacking of Paulo Di Canio at the weekend following a player revolt.
Steven Fletcher will be missing for Sunderland as Ball looks to make his first team selection. Fletcher dislocated a shoulder on Saturday in the game with WBA.
Jozy Altidore [pictured above] is likely to come in as Fletcher`s replacement and partner Fabio Borini up front.
Ball may see this match as an ideal opportunity for Lee Cattermole to get some much-needed match fitness.

Posh boss Darren Ferguson will be forced into making two changes after seeing defenders Nat Knight-Percival and Mark Little sent off in their match with MK Dons on Saturday. Kgosi Ntlhe and Gaby Zakuani [pictured below] are likely to get the nod to replace the banned pair with Shaun Brisley finally getting the call-up to the subs bench.
Danny Kearns missed the Dons match with a slight thigh problem and may not be fit for selection.
Fergie has played his strongest side in both Capital One Cup matches so far this season and tonight should be no different meaning million pound men Tyrone Barnett and Britt Assombalonga will both start up front again.

Vital Posh predicts the starting line-up will be:
2 - Connor Wickham; 1 - Jozy Altidore; 1 - Steven Fletcher
8 - Britt Assombalonga; 7 - Lee Tomlin; 5 - Tyrone Barnett; 3 - Tommy Rowe
MICHAEL NAYLOR from South Yorkshire will be refereeing Sunderland for the first every time while the relative new official has refereed Posh on two occasions.

He will be assisted by Paul Curry and Geoffrey Liddle.
The fourth official is Mark Haywood.
Sunderland are fully expecting a win tonight against lower league opposition Posh but they will get a massive shock if Posh can play as well as we know they can.
The Black Cats have forced Di Canio out of his job and will feel much more relaxed going into the game which could work in their favour and because of that, we feel they will sneak a tight match.
Posh to lose: 3 - 2.
