Head to Head: Peterborough United v Swindon Town

Vital Posh looks at previous matches between Peterborough United and Swindon Town ahead of the opening weekend of the 2013/14 Sky Bet Football League.

Swindon Home

It`s been three years since Posh and Swindon have met in a competitive match and that was the last time Posh were in League One. The majority of matches between these two teams are close affairs and being the first game of the season, it could be another tightly fought match.

In total, Posh and Swindon have met on 48 occasions in the League and it couldn`t be closer. There have been 14 draws with both teams winning 17 times each!!

The last time Swindon played at London Road, Posh ran out 5-4 winners thanks to a 90th minute own goal! The corresponding fixture at the County Ground ended in a 1-1 draw. The season before, 2008/09, both matches ended 2-2 while there was a 1-1 draw at London Road the season before that with Posh winning by a Trevor Benjamin goal in the return fixture.

The last 10 results between these two sides were:

Last Time Out at London Road

It was a typical Posh match with plenty of action and goals as Posh came out 5-4 winners against Swindon.

Posh raced to a three goal lead in just 22 minutes thanks to two Craig Mackail-Smith goals in the first five minutes and then Lee Frecklington adding the third but Swindon hit back through former Posh striker David Ball's 12-yard shot, Matt Ritchie's 25 yard blast (courtesy of a goalkeeping error from Joe Lewis!) and another composed Ball finish to level the match before half time.

George Boyd drilled home for Posh 13 minutes into the second half before the Robins levelled again this time through a Charlie Austin penalty after Charlie Lee had handled the ball.

It was Kevin Amankwaah, who played against Posh in pre-season for the Cobblers, who put a low Nathaniel Mendez-Laing cross into his own net in the third minute of injury time to give Posh the victory.
