Ref Watch: Peterborough United v Sheffield Weds

The man in charge of the npower Championship match between Peterborough United and Sheffield Wednesday is NIGEL MILLER.

Football League Championship - Nigel Miller

After having had so many rookie referees, Posh now find themselves with a referee who has 10-years of experience in the Football League.

Both sides have had Mr Miller on numerous occasions during these 10 years with Wednesday having him nearly twice every season and it will be the second match he has refereed for both sides this season.

The County Durham based referee has taken charge of Posh twelve times with eight of these games being at home. Of these eight games, Posh have won five and lost three. Posh have never been involved in a draw then Miller has been refereeing them.

The last Posh match Miller refereed was earlier in the season when Bolton staged a late and undeserved fightback only to fall just short as they lost 5-4 at London Road. Dwight Gayle [pictured below] put Posh 2-0 up after only six minutes following his swivel and shot into the top corner of the net.

Four yellow cards were issued in the Wanderers match which all went to the visitors.

Of the twelve Posh matches Miller has refereed, Posh have won exactly half of them. 28 yellow cards have been shown with 11 going to Posh while 6 red cards have been issued with four of them going to Posh! The four Posh players to receive their marching orders were Sagi Burton in the 2004/05 clash at home to Tranmere which Posh won 2-1; Peter Kennedy in the 1-0 defeat at Carlisle in 2005/06 while a double sending off in the 2009/10 clash with Derby County saw Posh defeated 3-0. Centre backs Craig Morgan and Ryan Bennett were the ones to get an early bath.

Sheffield Wednesday have had Miller even more often than Posh. They have had him on 17 occasions winning just three times! They have drawn five games while losing 9 times. Let`s hope that figure is 10 by the end of the game on Saturday.

Miller refereed the early season clash at Brighton and Hove Albion. Wednesday lost that match 3-0 but all three yellow cards went to the home side.

So far this season, Miller has issued 105 yellow cards in his 37 games he`s refereed while showing five red cards. Two of the red cards have come in Championship matches.

His last match came on Saturday when Watford overcame a stubborn first half performance by Blackburn Rovers before running out 4-0 winners. Five yellow cards were issued in that match with two going to Watford while Blackburn received the only red card of the match which went to Leon Best in the 90th minute.

The assistant referees for this match will be Derek Eaton and Jake Hillier. The fourth official is Christopher Sarginson.
