Ref Watch: Blackburn v Posh

The man in charge of the npower Championship match between Blackburn Rovers and Peterborough United is SCOTT MATHIESON.

Mathieson has already taken charge of Rovers and Posh this season and is a very experienced referee having first taken charge of a Football League match back in 1994!

Posh lost 2-1 at home to Leeds United towards the end of August while Mathieson wasn`t the most favoured man on the pitch having awarded four yellow cards in that match, all to Posh! Mark Little, Gaby Zakuani, Danny Swanson and Emile Sinclair were all booked during the match which saw Luciano Becchio score a brace while a single goal from Michael Bostwick was nothing more than a consolation for Posh.

Blackburn had Mathieson take charge of their game just four weeks later but were on the right side of a 2-1 scoreline. Despite falling behind to a 32nd minute Jacob Mellis goal for the visitors Barnsley, a Jordan Rhodes goal on the stroke of half-time was followed up by the winner from Nuno Gomes just five minutes from time! Both sides received just one yellow card each.

Mathieson seems to be an unlucky referee for Posh as they have had him referee three times in the last three years and have lost every time! They did win with Mathieson in charge during the 2007/08 season when they won 3-2 away at Dagenham and Redbridge!

The Cheshire based referee has officiated 30 matches so far this season; 18 of them being Championship matches. Of those 30 matches, he has issued 75 yellow cards and 8 red cards. The last red card went to an MK Dons player, so he can`t be too bad!

His last Championship match came last weekend when he officiated the basement battle between Bristol City and Barnsley. City won that match 5-3 while just one yellow card was issued which went to Barnsley.

The assistant referees for the Blackburn Rovers v Posh match are Geoffrey Liddle and Paul Hobday. The fourth official is Adrian Holmes.
