Heartbreak For Posh Youngsters

The hard truth of professional football has sadly hit four Posh youths as they are released by the club!

Peterborough United Academy manager Dave Robertson had the tough task of informing the individuals that they were being released and their future lies outside of Peterborough United.

The four second year scholars released were defenders Charlie Butt and Jack Hendry along with midfielders Tom Wood and Matt Sparrow.

Speaking to the club website, Robertson said: "It is the tough part of the job, but we have to be very realistic in our approach at the football club and unfortunately a few of the boys have just fallen short. The standard is so high at the football club in what we are trying to achieve, so decisions have to be made.

"It is obviously very disappointing for those individuals concerned, but we have had conversations with them and I believe they will have a career in the game. The players have served the football club well. Some of been with us since 11-years-old and they have been great on and off the pitch and we wish them the best of luck.

"I am sure they have learned a lot that will stand them in good stead for the future ahead. We will do all we can to find them clubs and hopefully they will stay positive and stay in the game."

As one door has shut for the four, Robertson is now looking ahead to the next group of players with real excitement about what the future may hold for some of them: "Of next year's youth team group, three of the first years have made their debuts in the first team and it is an exciting group and we want to make sure that they are ready for the challenge that lies ahead." Robertson said.

Posh Chairman Darragh MacAnthony was quick to pass on his best wishes to the departing players as he tweeted: "To the young lads released from youth set up today, I wish you well in your journey to make it in the game. Don't let this be the end. Good luck".
