Ref Watch: Wolves v Posh

The man in charge of the npower Championship match between Wolverhampton Wanderers and Peterborough United is MARK HEYWOOD.

It seems this is the season of the rookie referee as Posh get yet another one taking charge of one of their fixtures!

Mark Heywood, who should not be mistaken for referee Mark Haywood, is in only his second season as a Football League referee!

Last season he refereed a total of 27 matches with just one of them being a Championship match. That match between Middlesbrough and Crystal Palace finished goalless while each side had one player receive a yellow card.

75 yellow cards were issued by the Northwich referee during last season while he only brandished a red card on one occasion. That came in the match between Hartlepool and Stevenage when after only 8 minutes the Pools keeper was sent off. Scott Laird converted the resulting penalty which turned out to be the only goal of the game.

So far this season, Heywood has refereed eleven matches issuing 34 yellow cards and 2 red ones. The two red cards arrived in the same match and they were both issued to Watford players in their match at Cardiff City. Daniel Pudil and Nathaniel Chalobah were the guilty pair for Watford. The Bluebirds won that match thanks to a 90th minute goal from Aron Gunnarson.

Heywood has refereed three Championship matches so far this season including his last outing which came at Nottingham Forest who beat Burnley 2-0. Five yellow cards were issued in that match with three going to the visitors.

Neither Posh or Wolves have had Heywood officiate them before.

The assistant referees for the Wolves v Posh match are Danny Gratton and Stephen Ross. The fourth official is Andrew Fox.
