Brighton v Peterborough - Preview

Peterborough United will be looking to get back to winning ways after their disappointing defeat at the weekend while Brighton are looking for their first win in eight games!

Brighton & Hove Albion -Vs- Peterborough United
Venue: AMEX Stadium
Date: 6th November, 2012
Kick-off: 7:45pm

With four wins out of the last seven matches, Posh are in search of their third away win of the season. Meanwhile, Brighton haven`t tasted victory in the previous seven matches and are looking to bring that run of results to an end.

Having turned their season round after a disastrous start, Posh`s performance at the weekend dipped way below what was acceptable. They have a chance to put things right with the trip to the south coast to face an awkward looking fixture at 10th place Brighton.

Posh boss Darren Ferguson has said that every match between now and the end of the season will be a Cup Final for his team but his first "cup final" is tricky one with Brighton having done the double over Posh on the last two seasons! On the plus side, the last time Posh tasted victory over the Seagulls was on a Tuesday night in Brighton back in the 2008/09 season when they came away with a 4-2 win with one of the goals being scored by Craig Mackail-Smith [pictured below scoring the goal against Brighton in 2009].

Brighton started the season really well and headed the Championship midway through September. However, they only stayed at the top of the pile for a week as that 2-1 win over Millwall was the last win they recorded! Four draws and three defeats later have since seen them slide down the Championship.

The Seagulls and Posh have met 34 times in the past in League encounters. If you take out the last two seasons where Brighton have won all four matches, things were very even. However, the record now shows Brighton on top with 15 victories compared to 11 victories by Posh. Eight matches have been drawn. The matches last season finished 2-0 at the AMEX Stadium in August 2011 and 2-1 at London Road in January this year.

TEAM NEWS

Brighton and Hove Albion

The Seagulls could be without defender Adam El-Abd who is battling with a hamstring injury while Liam Bridcutt misses out through suspension following his fifth yellow card of the season against Leeds United on Saturday.

Former Posh striker Craig Mackail-Smith will again take his place up front. He is on course for his best goal return at Championship level having already scored 8 goals. He was denied a hat-trick on Friday night when his late penalty was saved by Leeds keeper Paddy Kenny.

Peterborough United

Posh boss Darren Ferguson will be forced into at least one change following the nasty looking injury sustained by Kgosi Ntlhe against Sheffield Wednesday on Saturday. Tommy Rowe is still doubtful for the Brighton trip but he could be available for the weekend visit by Crystal Palace.

Young defender Peter Grant and forward Dave Hibbert are also unavailable for the trip to the AMEX Stadium while Emile Sinclair still hasn`t recovered from the injury he picked up in training last week.

Danny Swanson could be in line for his first start in a number of weeks following a couple of good substitute appearances in the last two matches. He could replace either the injured Ntlhe or the disappointing Tomlin.

Joe Newell and Craig Alcock could also slip into Ntlhe`s position while Gaby Zakuani could slot back into defence if Alcock is the chosen one.

Vital Posh predicts the starting line-up will be:

Olejnik

Alcock, Brisley, Knight-Percival

Little, Bostwick, McCann, Newell

Swanson        Boyd
Berahino

HOTSHOTS

Seagulls

8 - Mackail-Smith
4 - Barnes
2 - Bridge

Posh

6 - George Boyd

REFEREE

JAMES ADCOCK takes charge of his 16th match of the season.

He will be assisted by Darren Blunden and Matt Foley.

The fourth official is Carl Brook.

PREDICTION

Posh will want to improve on their disappointing performance at the weekend and could once again be difficult to break down. If Posh can play as well as we know they can, they we could get a draw or even nick a win!

It`s not what Posh do, but Posh to draw: 0 - 0.
