'If It's Football, It's Vital'

Jonson Clarke-Harris signs for The Posh!

18 year old striker Jonson Clarke-Harris has put pen to paper on a 2 year contract at London Road.

Clarke-Harris was available on a free transfer following his release by Coventry. Coventry decided against handing the striker a professional contract for 'disciplinary reasons`.

According to many, Peterborough United have signed one of the best young properties in football with this signing. Clarke-Harris certainly knows how to make his presence felt, he`s tall, fast and is a fantastic finisher.

Coventry`s decision to release the young striker was a largely unpopular one amongst their fans, they felt he would`ve gone on to be a top player in their bid for promotion straight back to the Championship. But when asked, manager Andy Thorn eluded to Clarke-Harris` 'disciplinary issues`. Coventry fans again reacted angrily to Thorn`s decisions on selling players, when other young star Gael Bigirimana was sold to Newcastle just days after Clarke-Harris was let go.

Clarke-Harris was handed a trial for Coventry after impressing in a friendly against a strong Coventry Under 16`s team. He worked his way up through the Coventry youth set up, only to be released at the end of last season. There was a lot of interest in the 18 year old, most notably from Stoke City and Blackburn Rovers. Clarke-Harris was given a trial for Blackburn, and he scored the winning goal for their reserves during his time there. But Peterborough United beat Blackburn in the race to sign the striker.

When speaking to www.theposh.com, Posh boss Darren Ferguson spoke of his delight at the signing, saying 'Jonson is a young lad who we were made aware of. He actually played against our youth team last season and he caught the eye. He has an extremely powerful left foot, he`s big, strong, wants to learn and we think he has a chance`

'It's our gain and Coventry`s loss, I have seen him at first hand and we felt it was a bit of a no-brainer for us`

Jonson Clarke-Harris will wear the number 22 shirt for the Posh. On behalf of everyone at Vital Peterborough, and all of the Posh fans, we`d like to welcome Jonson to the club, and wish him all the best during his time here.
