Local Derby Kicks-Off Season

Peterborough United have been handed a local derby for the opening day of the season!

Peterborough United will start their season away at local rivals Leicester City before hosting Millwall and Leeds United on the following Tuesday and Saturday.

Leicester are currently the bookies favourites for promotion from the Championship while Posh are joint second favourites, according to Paddy Power (Ladbrokes make us favourites for the drop!), for the drop alongside Crystal Palace (who they meet on the last day of the season).

Last season, Posh earned a battling 1-1 draw with the Foxes thanks to a goal from Leicester boy Lee Tomlin.

Posh are looking for a good start to the season just as they did last season when picking up seven points from the first twelve points on offer.

Due to legal obligations, we're not allowed to publish the fixtures here, so you can find the full fixture list HERE.

Posh boss Darren Ferguson is in confident mood though as he reflected on the fixture: 'We know that Leicester are one of the big teams in this division and they and Cardiff City will be spending money during the summer.

'They have brought in three players I know well. Jamie Vardy is somebody we were interested in and Ritchie De Laet and Matty James have come from Manchester United.

'However, we will go there with no fear. We took four points off Leicester last season and performed well so we can go there with confidence.' Ferguson said.

'You have to play everyone at some point and we will be looking to get off to a good start. We made a good start to last season and that was key and we will be looking to do the same again.

'It is a bit of a local derby to start with and I am sure the supporters will travel in good numbers,'.
