Posh Ready For Capital One Cup Draw

The season may still be two months away but the draw for the first round of the Capital One Cup takes place on Thursday - and Posh will be in the hat.

The League Cup, newly named thanks to the four-year Capital One sponsorship deal that replaces Carling, will kick-start the 2012-13 domestic season.

Matches are due to take place in the week commencing Monday, August 13th which is the week leading up to the first League games of the season! However, if both teams agree, the match could take place on Saturday, 11th August.

All Football League clubs with the exception of Bolton Wanderers and Blackburn Rovers will enter the competition at the first round stage.

The draw has been split into north and south regions for the first round which will also see teams seeded, Posh being one of them.

Thirteen Premier League clubs as well as relegated pair Blackburn and Bolton join in round two, to be played at the end of August, while the seven top-flight sides involved in European football come in for round three.

The final will be at Wembley on Sunday, 24th February, 2013.

The first round matches will be announced at 9:30am tomorrow [Thursday, 14th June, 2012].

Last season, Posh fell at the second hurdle going down 2-0 at home to Championship rivals Middlesbrough. Posh beat local rivals Stevenage, whom they meet in a pre-season friendly, 4-3 in the first round thanks to a Lee Tomlin penalty in the final minute of extra-time!
