Final Farewell For George Boyd?

Peterborough United midfielder George Boyd could play his last home match for Posh against Watford at the weekend.

With just one season remaining on his contract and having refused to sign an extension, George Boyd could be heading out of the London Road doors during the summer as Posh look to cash in on their "White Pele".

Boyd has enjoyed three promotions and one relegation during his five years at Posh but it looks as though his love affair with Posh is coming to an end as he looks to make a move to pastures new. However, it all depends on whether other clubs submit an offer which Posh feel is good for the club. "It`s not certain I`m going yet, It`s up to the club to accept an offer and then I`d take it from there, but if I have to stay and see out my contract I`ll do it happily," said Boyd.

"And whatever happens I`ve had a great time at the club. I joined them because I knew they were ambitious, but I didn`t expect it to go as well as it has.

"To be involved in three promotions is fantastic and I`ve loved every minute of it."

Posh signed Boyd from non-League Stevenage for £260,000, which was a non-league transfer fee record at the time. Boyd has made 261 appearances for Posh scoring 68 goals. There are only 11 other players to have played for Posh more than Boyd in the League and if he scores one more goal, he will be the 9th top scorer for the club.

He did had a brief spell on loan at Nottingham Forest two seasons ago when Posh were last in the Championship but things didn`t go according to play as he played only a few times for Forest before returning to Posh at the end of the 2009/10 season.

Boyd`s game has really developed during his time at Posh though and he puts that down to one man - Posh boss Darren Ferguson: "The fans have been brilliant with me and the manager has been an incredible influence on my career.

"He has really developed my game and I`ll always be grateful. His worth was really shown when he left because the club quickly became a bit of a shambles.

"I`ve been happy with my form at the club. The best form I showed was in the first half of the Championship season two years ago when I scored 11 goals by the end of November, but I`ve also been pleased with the number of assists I`ve had this season."

Should Boyd leave during the summer, this Saturdays clash with Watford will be his last home game in a blue shirt. He may also be captain if Grant McCann starts the match on the bench, as he did against Southampton on Tuesday night.

Assistant manager Kevin Russell believes Boyd will receive the applause he deserves from the London Road faithful tomorrow.

"George is a fantastic professional and a fantastic player, He gives 150 per cent in every training session as well as every game." said Russell.

"He`s a great talent, but he`s also very humble. He is a top-class pro with a great attitude.

"Obviously I hope he stays with us, but if it his last home match I know every fan will give him the reception he deserves."
