Posh v Robins - The Managers Viewpoint

Posh boss Darren Ferguson said after the match: "That was a very good all-round display. I was very happy with the attitude and the football we played as we were very good in and out of possession.

"There had been no sign of tension or nerves in our build-up to the game. We`ve trained well and the players carried out the game-plan to perfection.

"It was a big win for us as doubts had been building up, but not from within the club. Clubs often go on bad runs in the Championship - Brighton went 10 games without winning earlier this season.

"We`ve kept our belief and we picked up our reward against Bristol.

"We started the game really well, and we didn`t really loosen our grip for most of the match.

"I know I`ve been boring, but 50 points has always been the target and four more wins gets us to within one point of that.

"We have another big game at Doncaster on Saturday, but we will go there full of confidence."

Ferguson continued: "I had some tough decisions to make, but I always make them for the good of the team and they worked out well in this game.

"Paul is a very reliable goalkeeper and he again delivered a very solid performance, but this was a good all-round team effort.

"We played with a flat midfield four to enable us to get the ball in the area from wide areas and the two lads out wide put in terrific shifts for us.

"The workrate was key as well. We really put them under pressure when they were in possession and in the end we were well worth the win.

"We defended well when we had too and Gaby Zakuani was outstanding as he has been for most of the season.

"Everything that came into the box was headed away by Gaby. And he doesn`t just head it, he heads it miles.

"Ryan Bennett was also very good. We`ll miss him, but he deserves his chance in the Premier League."

Lee Tomlin was delighted after his brace helped Posh to the win: "The early goal was important and I was glad I just kept running into the penalty area as I thought George Boyd`s shot was over the line, but the defender kicked it away and I just headed it in.

"Our second goal was crucial and I was obviously pleased to score again late on. Hopefully we can stop thinking about relegation now and start concentrating on moving up the table.

"For me I just want to keep on improving. It`s my first season at this level and I know I can get better."

Ferguson added: "Those goals will do Lee the world of good. He`s had a difficult time of late, but there`s no doubt he is a quality footballer.

"He can do things on a pitch that drive you mental but that`s the sort of player he is.

"He wants to try things, he wants to be creative and I`m hoping he has a strong finish to the season. He also worked hard."

Centre-back Ryan Bennett played his last match at home for Posh and it was an emotional ending: "It was great to hear them singing about me at the end, especially as some of them were booing me in the first half whenever I passed the ball back to Paul Jones!

"I`d like to thank the fans for their support in my time here. They have been brilliant with me.

"It was emotional to think that it was my last game at London Road, but winning and getting a clean sheet was the perfect way for me to bow out.

"I will miss the place and I will miss playing with Gaby Zakuani. Gabs is just an incredible man. He`s started having injections in his toe for fun now.

"He must have had 50 now and I can promise 99 per cent of players would not have gone through that. I hope I get to play with him again as he`s been a brilliant partner.

"There`s no doubt we deserved to win and 3-0 was about right. We came under a bit of pressure from set-pieces at the start of the second half, but we were comfortable for the most part,

"We had a gameplan and we executed it perfectly. We wanted to get back to the standard of the MK Dons play-off match at home when we didn`t give them a moment`s peace on the ball and it worked a treat.

"I expect us to kick on now and climb up the table. We`ve shown we belong in the Championship and I`m sure the team will continue to progress without me."

Bristol City

BRISTOL City boss Derek McInnes admitted Posh were the better side as he said: "The better side won that match. Peterborough started well, scored a goal that was awful from our point of view and we were lucky not to be more than one goal behind at half-time.

"We changed a couple of things at the break and we had a good 20-minute spell when we might have grabbed an equaliser. Their goalkeeper has made a couple of good saves and we had one cleared off the line, but Peterborough got back on top and they were very worthy winners.

"If we could have scored a goal when we were on top it might have been a different story as the pressure would have been back on them.

"It was a disappointing day for us as we fancied we could get a result here, but we didn`t play well.

"We`ll come again though. There`s enough spirit in the squad."
