Posh Need Snow Clearing Help

Peterborough United have put out a plea for up to 300 volunteers to help clear the London Road pitch of snow.

After last weekends heavy snowfall, the Posh groundsmen were assisted by the Posh Youth team and even the Chairman Darragh MacAnthony to clear the snow from the covers protecting the pitch:

However, another covering of snow blanketed the ground again overnight on Thursday.

It has been decided to leave the snow on the pitch until early Saturday morning as it will act as an insulation blanket protecting the pitch from the freezing overnight temperatures.

In an attempt to get the pitch and surrounding area fit for the npower Championship match with West Ham United on Saturday afternoon, POSH NEED YOUR HELP.

They need 300 volunteers to assist with clearing the snow from the pitch early on Saturday morning. Ideally, they would like people to arrive from 7am, with snow shovels if possible, and report to reception.

All volunteers need to be over the age of 18.

Gritting lorries will be deployed at the stadium and surrounding areas today and on Saturday morning to ensure spectator safety outside of the ground.

There is a pitch inspection arranged for 10am on Saturday so the plan is to clear the snow from the covers on the pitch, transport it outside of the stadium to a designated tipping area and allow the covers to be removed ready for the inspection by the match referee.

Chief Executive Bob Symns said to the club website: 'At the moment, the pitch beneath the covers is playable. Obviously we are all now waiting for the results of the overnight temperatures. We are doing everything we can to ensure this game will take place, but we really need your assistance to remove the snow first thing on Saturday morning.'
