Is Brisley the mystery centre back?

Rumours are circling that Peterborough United are interested in Macclesfield Town centre back Shaun Brisley.

21-year-old Brisley is under contract at Moss Rose until 2013, but Macclesfield will not stand in the youngster's way if he chooses to move higher up the League.

Brisley made his debut for the Silkmen in 2008 and has been an ever-present for the club this season. He has since made over 120 appearances scoring 16 goals. His contract is due to expire at the end of the 2012/13 season.

Peterborough United sold their England Under 21 defender Ryan Bennett to Premiership outfit Norwich City on transfer deadline day but immediately loaned him back for a month to give themselves time to find a replacement.

Once Bennett goes to Norwich, it would leave Posh boss Darren Ferguson with just one senior centre back so it is important Ferguson brings in the right man within the next month.

Any centre-back brought in will be for the remainder of the season and with a view to making the deal permanent in the summer.

Posh have already made a deal with a mystery player who has signed a pre-contract with them and will join the club in the summer. Posh are keeping tight-lipped as to who this player is.
