Head to Head - Hull City -Vs- Peterborough

Vital Posh looks at previous matches between Hull City and Peterborough United.

Peterborough United face another tough challenge when they travel north to face play-off hopefuls Hull City.

The Tigers have played Posh on 31 occasions in the League with Posh currently on top with 15 League wins compared to Hulls 8 wins.

When these two teams met earlier this season, a solitary Aaron McLean strike was enough for Hull City to take all three points back to Humberside.

Last Time Out at Hull

The last time Posh travelled north to Hull was seven seasons ago in the Coca-Cola League One.

Going in to the match, Hull were top of the League, two points ahead of Luton Town after 26 games. Posh had played 27 games and were in the relegation places with 23 points just ahead of Wrexham, MK Dons and Stockport.

Hull made an impressive start at the KC Stadium with some neat play with Guy Branston doing well to clear under pressure from Green. At the other end, David Farrell floated in a cross to Andy Clarke but his header was saved by Myhill.

A cross-cum-shot from Adam Newton had Myhill back-peddling soon afterwards, but the ball dropped onto the roof of the net. Posh were certainly causing Hull problems as a long throw from Andy Legg fell to Farrell, but he failed to hit the target before Chris Plummer hooked the ball into Myhill's hands.

Although Posh had the better of the opening, the league leaders started to find their feet when a long ball through the middle after 15 minutes found Facey, but he took the shot early but it didn`t cause Mark Tyler any problems in goal.

Nick Barmby, who is now Hull`s manager, saw a powerful shot hit the side-netting after a good flick from Ellison.

It was Posh who broke the deadlock though as persistence from Calum Willock down the right side, charged down two clearances before getting to the by-line before cutting the ball back for THOMSON to fire Posh ahead.

Posh could`ve doubled their advantage after 35 minutes when a throw out from Tyler found Willock who went past the last man but couldn`t get past Myhill who pounced to grab the ball. Another counter attack by Posh ended with Thomson having his shot blocked.

Tyler had to be at his very best to deny Ellison who arrived in the box to meet a Facey cut-back.

Green hit a shot wide of the target on 41 minutes as Hull went in search of an equaliser. Tyler was called on again, this time producing a fingertip save to deny Green after a good flick on from Facey.

Two minutes before the interval, Hull did have the ball in the back but Delaney was ruled offside when he helped the ball over the line. Barmby was fuming that his team-mate has touched the ball over the line. Facey then had an effort that went wide of the target.

Half-time: Hull City 0 - 1 Peterborough United

It didn't take long for the Tigers to level things up after the restart when Facey got in front of Tyler to nod the ball to BARMBY who headed the ball into the roof of the net.

Andy Clarke saw another shot blocked as Posh tried to re-take the lead. He was then allowed time to get a left-foot shot on goal, but Myhill did well to smother the ball.

Cort nearly put through his own net on 55 minutes after good play from Sean St. Ledger and Newton while Tyler produced another stop to deny Green.

Hull took the lead on the hour mark though as a ball through the middle of the Posh defence found midfielder GREEN who lofted the ball over Tyler and into the back of the net.

Soon after going behind, Guy Branston had to be replaced after picking up a calf injury. Wayne Purser and Andre Boucaud were introduced as Posh tried to turn the game round. Nigerian international Chris Kanu then replaced the injured Plummer.

Substitute Boucaud almost levelled things up but his floated volley went just wide of the target on 67 minutes.

After all the changes, Posh started to settle down and were playing well and causing problems for Hull. With just five minutes remaining, St Ledger produced a great tackle to deny Keane a shot on goal.

With Posh pushing forward in search of the equaliser, Hull nearly snatched a third goal as Ellison managed to keep the ball in play but his shot found the side-netting.

Purser then saw a low shot saved by Myhill at the other end. It was in the first minute of stoppage time that Posh finally found the equaliser they deserved. Some great work from Clarke saw him beat the full-back and his scuffed shot found WILLOCK at the far post who tapped the ball into the empty net.
