Head to Head - Peterborough -Vs- Sunderland

Vital Posh looks at previous matches between Posh and Sunderland.

Peterborough United face another tough challenge, but this time, it`s in the form of Premiership form team Sunderland in the 3rd Round of the FA Cup.

These two teams have played each other competitively on just five occasions!

Four of those matches came in the early 1990`s in League Division One with the first match coming in the FA Cup in the 1966/67 season.

Every game between these two sides has seen the winning team win by two or more goals.

Sunderland have the better record having won four of the five matches with Posh winning just once.

Last Time Out in the FA Cup

It was forty five years ago that Posh and Sunderland met for the first and only time in the FA Cup and it didn`t go too well for Posh!

Sunderland were in the First Division at the time while Posh were in the Third Division playing only their seventh season of League football.

Going 4-0 down by half time, a shell shocked Posh ended up suffering their heaviest defeat since entering the Football League with the game ending up 7-1.
