Ahead of Peterborough Uniteds visit to Leicester City on Saturday, Vital Posh looks at the ground we will be visiting plus parking, train info and drinking / eating recommendations.
Opened in 2002 close to their old Filbert Street stadium, the King Power Stadium has a seated capacity of 32,500.
When it was first opened, it was known as the Walkers Stadium until a new commercial sponsorship deal in 2011 renamed it the King Power Stadium. The stadium cost £35m and is completely enclosed with seating including the corners.
The team dug-outs are in front of the West Stand which also has a row of executive boxes.
Leicester City - King Power Stadium
Address: Filbert Way, Leicester, LE2 7FL
Nickname: The Foxes
Shirt Sponsors: King Power
Home Colours: Blue and White
Posh to King Power Stadium: 42 miles
Up to 3,000 away supporters can be housed in the North East corner of the stadium.
The concourse is of a reasonable size and has TV screens at various points which shows the game, so you won`t miss anything if you are stuck in a queue for food or drink. The catering facilities offer the usual hot dogs, burgers and pies (including Balti Chicken pies).
Expect a delay at half-time and full-time if you need to pay a visit to the toilets as the poor design causes obstructions with people coming in and out.
If you plan to drive, please note, there is no parking at the ground!
Traffic does get rather congested around the ground on match days so you may need to allow a bit extra time to get there.
You are able to park in nearby streets where there is also "make-shift" car parks including a church which is where I found myself parking last time I went. Prices are the usual £3-£5 per car.
If you prefer to park slightly further away, which is often easier to get away after the game, you can park at Leicester Rugby Club which is about a 10 minute walk.
Do not park in the nearby Morrisons car park though.
Trains from Peterborough to Leicester take nearly an hour and run hourly at 8 minutes to the hour e.g. 10:52am.
Trains for the return journey leave at quarter past the hour e.g. 17:15, 18:15 etc unless additional trains are put on.
Leicester train station is in the city centre which is about a 25 minute walk.
Drinking & Eating
There are a number of pubs and restaurants in the city centre if you want to walk the 20-25 minutes to get there.
Most of the pubs near to the stadium are home fans only though. The Half Time Orange pub, just over the road from the away end is a members-only Leicester City bar. The Victory and The F Bar pubs should also be avoided by visiting supporters.
One of the best pubs for away fans is the Counting House pub on Freemens Common Road. Both sets of supporters often visit this watering hole. The pub is located just off Aylestone Road, behind the Local Hero pub (home fans only) and next to Morrisons Supermarket. Morrisons have a restaurant if you want something simple and down to earth to eat.
The nearby Holiday Inn Express on Filbert Way also has a bar which away fans may be able to use.
For those arriving by train, The Hind pub across the road from the station serves a selection of real ales. Otherwise alcohol is usually available inside the stadium. Alcohol is not sold for high profile games so it depends whether Posh is classed as a high profile game or not.
