England Under-21 Boss Watches Posh

England Under 21 coach Stuart Pearce was at London Road at the weekend to run the rule over a number of players from both Peterborough United and Burnley.

Stuart Pearce at London Road - Posh v Burnley

Burnley currently have a number of young players who have played before for Pearce but it is a rare occurrence that Posh players make the grade while still at Posh.

It is little surprise though that with Posh placing an emphasis on young and hungry players and with their promotion back to the Championship and indeed the good start they`ve made, Posh`s young players might be making noises in the right places.

Posh Chairman Darragh MacAnthony confirmed on Twitter that Pearce was at London Road looking at a Posh player.

Centre back Ryan Bennett has looked to have matured into a very good player who could potentially go all the way to the Premiership. Is an Under-21 call up the next step in his career?

Peterborough United defender Ryan Bennett

Speaking to www.theposh.com, Bennett said: "As a player I don't pay any interest to speculation so the fact Stuart Pearce was in the stands doesn't matter to me, in fact I didn't even know he was there until when someone said after the game.

"I think Burnley have three lads in their team who he was probably watching so it doesn't mean anything to me. It would be a big surprise to me if he was there watching me, the England under 21 squad is full of talent and any interest in me would be a complete shock.

"I am just getting my head down and trying to play well. I was happy with my performance on Saturday, we knew it was going to be a hard game because every game at this level is difficult, but I think as a whole back four we defended well and when everyone defends well as a unit, it makes my job that little bit easier. For the gaffer to single me out for praise was nice, but I don't believe I was any better than any of the other back four."

Another player that can surely expect a call-up sooner rather than later is last seasons Reserve Player of the Year for Manchester United who is now on loan at Posh - Ryan Tunnicliffe.

Tunnicliffe has made 2 starts for Posh so far and was voted man of the match in the recent defeat against Hull City. The tough tackling, powerful midfielder, who is still only 18 years old, is highly thought of at Manchester United and is expected to go a long way in the game.
