Posh Win Performance of the Week Accolade

The League Managers Association five-man Performance of the Week panel, comprising LMA Chairman Howard Wilkinson, Sir Alex Ferguson, Joe Royle, Dave Bassett and Barry Fry, were in agreement that this week, the F&C Thames River Performance of the Week Award should go to Peterborough United following their excellent 7-1 home win against Ipswich Town in the npower Championship on Saturday 20th August 2011.

Peterborough manager Darren Ferguson will receive a specially engraved crystal football in a presentation to be screened on Sky Soccer Saturday on 27th August 2011.

Peterborough maintained their fine start to the 2011/12 campaign in the npower Championship, with a remarkable display at London Road.

Keith Andrews gave the visitors an early lead, but The Posh were soon to respond thanks to Lee Tomlin and Paul Taylor who both netted two goals apiece before half-time.

After the break, Grant McCann added a brace of goals for the hosts before Tomlin completed the rout and his hat-trick late on.

After the match, Ferguson was thrilled with the performance of his players;

'I couldn't be more delighted with my players.

'To win a game of football 7-1 at any level is a terrific achievement, but to do it in the Championship against a team of Ipswich's standing is nothing short of magnificent.

"I'm sure this will be a day that everyone will remember for a long time and it is not just the final result that pleases me.'
