'If It's Football, It's Vital'

Peterboro Players Show True Compassion.

SFC Forever from Vital Saints wrote:

Rarely can you report a heart warming story such as the one that unfolded on the day of this match between the Grecians and 'Posh'.

In August Exeter striker Adam Stansfield lost his fight against cancer. The next exeter game was postponed as an act of respect.

Saturday 18th September saw Peterborough visit for their league game, which turned out to be a highly entertaining and enjoyable game ending all square at 2-2.

Before the game though is what showed clearly to all and sundry that the heartbeat of football is still belonging to the normal family man.

An announcement over the tannoy system explained how the Posh players had agreed to rent themselves out for an afternoon to local businesses in a bid to raise £6000 for charity.

One of the charities that will benefit is the newly formed Adam Stansfield Foundation, set up in memory of the late Exeter striker.

The players have said that they will rent themselves out for two and a half hours an afternoon. For £500 a company can welcome two Posh players for that time to have them do anything required, with-in reason.

This idea comes from Aaron McClean and he explained his idea was hatched after hearing of Adam Stansfield's death.

Gary Johnson the Peterborough manager knew Adam from the time he signed him for Yeovil when he was their manager.

It may be that the players in the lower leagues are more intune with their fans but the act by the Peterborough squad is one of compassion.

After the announcement the Posh players were greeted with a warm loud bout of applause from the thousands of Exeter fans.

Fully deserved and something that shows the world that there is more to life than the fantasy football world of our Premier League footballers.
