From Vital Plymouth:
Peterborough not only battered Argyle they also gave them a lesson in how to play attacking football.
Posh were helped by poor defensive displays from Bondz N'Gala and skipper for the day Reda Johnson, the worst performance I've seen in years from an Argyle central defensive pairing.
Meanwhile, Krisztian Timar and Marcel Seip, two of the best centre backs in the league, are not wanted by Argyle.
Noone had the first chance for Argyle when his overhead kick from a Bhasera cross went just wide - good stuff from the little winger.
A mistake by N'Gala quickly followed by a mistake from Johnson allowed Aaron Mclean a clear run on goal but Bhasera somehow managed to get in a tackle and save the day and prevent a certain goal.
Peterborough easily had the upper hand against the Argyle defence with the comedy double act of N'Gala and Johnson all at sea.
The game then became scrappy and littered with free-kicks; the only bright spark for Argyle was Bhasera who just oozed class and skill.
A great run by left-back Lee Molyneux, which saw him beat two players and play a neat one-two with Dean Parrett, finished with him shooting just wide from 18 yards out, a good move in an otherwise poor first half showing from Argyle.
The second half saw Argyle drop a few gears and hand the initiative to Peterborough, although Noone did thread a great ball to Parrett but he wasted the chance by shooting wide.
From then on it was all Posh as the Pilgrims' went to pieces.
Posh now had their thinking caps on and thought 'hold on, a simple punt over the top will easily beat the comedy duo at the back' and sure enough that was the game plan for the rest of the game and boy, did it work!
A free-kick from McCann reached the unmarked Mackail-Smith (pictured above) and he did the business with a great thumping header. One nil to Peterborough with Button, N'Gala and Johnson no-where to be seen.
George Boyd should have made it 2-0 but he shot over the bar but soon after it was in fact 2-0.
Another long ball dissected the Argyle defence and there was Mackail-Smith to smash an angled shot past Button from 20-yards out.
With Argyle fans streaming out of Home Park Peterborough grabbed another goal just to take the mick.
This time it was just a corner that had the Argyle defence looking completely lost.
It was just a simple corner that evaded everything in Green but was met by McLean to score with a free header. 3-0.
How tall is McLean I hear you ask, well he's 5 foot 7 inches tall! Yes, that's right he beat the comedy duo and 6 foot 3 inch tall David Button in the air!
Just blow up ref please.
There was still time for Rory Patterson to head towards the corner flag from 15 yards out and then finally we were put out of our misery.
Well done Peterborough, a fully deserved win, I wish my team played like that.
Both teams were relegated from the Championship at the end of last season but the gulf between Argyle and Peterborough is alarming.
