'If It's Football, It's Vital'

Posh 2 Watford 1

This evening I`d imagine Mark Cooper will have something akin to a smile on his face.

It`s his forty-first birthday today and what better way to celebrate it than with that first win since taking over the managerial role from Darren Ferguson.

More importantly, and it`s a reason to have another beer or two tonight, Posh are not bottom any more, that dubious honour now belongs to Plymouth Argyle.

The only downer on the day being the pitiful attendance of 7,723 that was in London Road to witness Posh beat financially troubled Watford. Also, it should be mentioned that there was a healthy away support in the ground further dwindling the home support numbers.

Despite the shenanigans of midweek whereby a transfer request, submitted by Aaron Mclean was granted, Cooper decided to play the want-away forward. In the defence Zakuani returned, at the expense of Morgan, after recovering from injury.

Peterborough didn`t have long to wait to take the lead. With only nine minutes played a fine move down the left saw George Boyd deliver a cross to the far post that Lee Frecklington put away for his first senior goal since joining Posh from Lincoln City.

The other major incident of the half saw the visitors denied what they believed to be a sure fire penalty when Danny Graham was fouled in the area. For once luck was on our side as the appeals came to nothing.

Four minutes into the second half though, Watford did equalise when Eustace fired home after a Cleverley free kick was only parried by Joe Lewis in the Posh goal.

Thankfully, heads didn`t drop and on a day of firsts - first win for Mark Cooper and a first Posh goal for Lee Frecklington - Posh were to win it with another first.

This time that feat belonged to Exodus Geohaghan who, with twelve minutes left of normal time, managed to score his first goal for Peterborough United Football Club since arriving from Kettering Town, shortly after Mark Cooper made the same move.

I think I`ve just had my first Christmas present, albeit a few days early! Better get down the pub to celebrate then hadn`t I?
