Newcastle 3 Posh 1

The season went from bad to worse yesterday as Posh were out-classed by Newcastle.

Once again two goals in quick succession were our downfall in a defeat that leaves Darren Ferguson`s side firmly routed at the foot of the Championship table.

The game was effectively over after twenty minutes with Newcastle, cheered on by over forty thousand supporters, two goals to the good.

The first of which came from Gutierrez in the fifteenth minute when he went on a superb solo run from the half way line before finishing well.

Three minutes later, Carroll had doubled Newcastle`s lead with a far post header and Posh were never going to get back into it.

At half time Darren Ferguson introduced Coutts and Mclean in place of Diagouraga and Rose but the damage had been done and Newcastle put the match to bed with a freakish goal from Simpson who saw his swirling cross evade Lewis and go into the net.

Fearful of a rout it was pleasing to see Posh at least pull one goal back when Keates ran through the centre of the home defence before finishing well.

But the truth of the matter is that we were out-classed and that a season that promised so much is in danger of disappearing down the relegation plug-hole!
