Posh - Charnock Declared Nuts!

Earlier this week we reported that one of the twelve listed, Kieran Charnock, would be on the move to Torquay.

All that remained was the agreeing of personal terms.

Well it now transpires that Charnock rejected the terms offered and has returned to London Road.

It`s reported that Charnock would have been on the same pay he was on at London Road and the local media are reporting that Barry Fry is slightly bemused by the turn of events calling Charnock nuts and further expanding on this by remarking,

'I've told Kieran that he's nuts to turn the move down."

'Torquay, who are not big payers as a rule, have really pushed the boat out for him in terms of money and length of contract."

'No-one else is in for Kieran and if they were they probably wouldn't match Torquay's offer. He is perfectly entitled to stay here for another season, but he faces a year without any football."

'He would be a free agent at the end of next season, but who on earth is going to want him when he won't have played for a year."

'I've tried to talk sense into him and so has the manager. Darren Ferguson wants to play Sam Gaughran and youth team player Carl Piergianni as centre-halves in the reserves this season so it is going to be difficult for Kieran to put himself in the shop window."

'At the end of the day we can't force him out of the door, but I am very disappointed as we had negotiated a good deal for him and the club.'

Unless another offer is forthcoming, with the transfer fee agreeable to the club, Charnock will be sitting out his final year of his contract before leaving on a free next summer.

What surprises us is that we`d have thought that at twenty-five years of age Charnock would be seeking to play regular football!

i agree with Barry Fry - he's nuts to turn down a move whereby he'd get paid the same and play regularly!
