I always find it a little sad when those who helped us achieve memorable back-to-back promotions are deemed surplus to requirements.
The listing of the twelve players deemed to not be required contained a few names that surprised us here at Vital Posh!
However, as the new season draws ever nearer, it is gratifying to see that more and more of them are getting contracts at new clubs, with several ending up just down the road, well fifty miles or so, at Luton.
One of those is Shane Blackett who many, after an injury hit season, felt more than a little unlucky to be put on the list.
Therefore, it makes good reading to see that Shane, having signed for his home town club is looking forward to the season starting, even if the signing did come as a little shock.
Delving through several local newspapers, we came up with these quotes form the Luton News attributed to Shane, in which he talks about his hopes and also the recent friendly against a Posh XI.
"I`ve had a very eventful summer. Experiencing promotion with Peterborough and getting married and also changing clubs and moving to my home town."
"It`s all happened at the same time and I`m delighted about it and looking forward to next season."
Continuing, Shane discusses the influence his former Posh team mates, at Kenilworth Road, had on his move, commenting,
"I was at Peterborough with a lot of them."
"They are all good lads. I spoke to them prior to joining Luton and was happy with what they had to say."
"Peterborough had an asking price for me throughout the summer, but they have managed to negotiate and make things happen."
However, I doubt whether Shane could ever have envisaged that his first game in Luton colours would be against his old team mates, a point he remarks on,
"It was a bit strange - it was my first game in a long time."
"I hadn`t played in about four months. It was an interesting game to make my debut in."
Here at Vital Posh we`d like to, again, wish Shane well and we`ll be keeping a watchful eye on how all the ex-Posh lads do at Luton.
