With the rumour mill alive with speculation as to exactly what has happened in the supposed Ferguson to Reading scenario, Darragh MacAnthony has spoken to the local media to explain the situation.
Detailed below are events as Darragh saw them unfold and they make startling reading,
"Headlines like this do my head in, but if that's how people want to play the game, so be it."
'Yes Reading approached us. Barry Fry phoned me and I told him that permission to talk to my manager was not allowed unless they met my valuation."
Sounds perfectly fair to us so far!
'They told us that he was one of seven managers they wanted to speak to and they wouldn't meet our valuation and that was the end of the matter.
If there`s no valuation being met then why should we just roll over and let Reading interview him as one of seven? What are we, a charity?
'Out of politeness we informed the manager of events and that we had turned Reading's request down. He responded by stating that he would like to speak to them and he was told that wasn't going to happen until Reading or anyone else met my valuation."
Now it`s starting to get worrying! Why would Darren want to speak to Reading? Is there a small split in our camp now?
But returning to the valuation fee,
'There is no five-figure release clause in his contract as stated and unless clubs meet my valuation, Darren Ferguson will be going nowhere."
'The manager can't just decide that he wants to speak to another club in the Championship without permission and when it's only an interview."
'It's a bit like your wife saying to you that she's interested in another man and wants to go on a date. Then the date doesn't go to plan and she wants to come home again. Well that wouldn't happen in my house simple as that!"
Just love it, just love it! What a fantastic comparison and so true!
'My priortity is to Peterborough United Football Club and doing what is right for us. I appreciate that in football this goes on all the time, but I am not one to be bullied into selling our best assets unless it suits us.
'The sooner the summer comes to a close and the new season starts, the better, so we can get on with achieving our aim of a third promotion campaign!'
Exactly!
Now let`s wait for the next thrilling instalment!
