Darren Ferguson has highlighted, and for obvious reasons, the controversially three times taken penalty as a key moment behind his sides 2-0 defeat at Millwall on Monday.
With 'keeper Joe Lewis adjudged to have been off his line for the two spot kicks he did save from Gary Alexander, Dave Martin's attempt finally did beat him, but the Peterborough manager was left fuming with the officials and their decision making on the ones he saved: 'Just to see a penalty taken three times is ridiculous,' Ferguson told the official website. 'Keepers do move on the line - if it carries on then every penalty is going to have to get retaken eventually. I thought the first one was very harsh and the second one was more shock.'
Despite this contentious moment Ferguson admitted that Millwall were the better side and more deserving of the three points that they got, adding: 'Millwall were the superior team on the night and I am bitterly disappointed with my team's performance. At no time in the game did we have any control.'
Peterborough remain in the second automatic promotion place in the League One table but the lead has been cut to just three points over Millwall.
Failure to secure automatic promotion is something that Ferguson isn't contemplating, although he admitted he would be disappointed to miss out, as he wants to be at a higher level. Something that he knows the players and the fans also want!
