The gap between us and Leicester may look to be a healthy nine points but, in football terms, it`s not insurmountable.
Gaps can disappear in the blink of an eye and with Leicester losing at Tranmere in midweek and now facing a difficult trip to fourth placed Millwall, the lead could be further eroded.
But, Darren Ferguson stoically refuses to glance upwards towards Leicester instead preferring to concentrate on his own side.
Nine wins from nine games would, hopefully, put us in an unassailable position, a position that two years ago we could only have dreamed about.
In his pre-match interview with the local media, Darren emphasised the need to take care of our own business above others remarking,
'I keep saying it, but as we can only affect what we do we have to concentrate on our own game and not start wondering about anyone else."
'I can assure everyone that our focus tomorrow will be on beating Northampton and nothing else. This is a huge game in its own right, even if there weren't any promotion or relegation issues involved."
'If we win Northampton could well be in the mire, but that doesn't concern me. I have no idea whether or not Northampton will survive and I have no idea whether or not they deserve to."
I think you`ll find Darren most Posh fans would, in the words of Kevin Keegan, just love it if Northampton went down.
However, continuing, Darren explained,
'All that bothers me is winning another game. If we keep doing that the other sides at the top will have to worry about us rather than the other way around.
'But there will no complacency tomorrow. Northampton are not going to make it easy for us so we will have to be up and at it from the first whistle to the last.
'I already know I won't need to motivate the players because the fact that it's a local derby has already done that.'
Here at Vital Posh, we`ll re-iterate that if we play like we did in the second half, against Scunthorpe on Tuesday night, Northampton will be swept aside!
