Saturday will see a gigantic clash between two sides with enormous ambition.
Posh will be looking to continue their meteoric rise through the divisions with a win that will cement their claims for a promotion place whilst Leicester City, our hosts, will be looking to gather three more points as they seek to continue their return back to the divisions (Championship and Premier League) they`ve become more accustomed to in recent years.
For Posh, there is the added incentive of continuing an unbeaten streak that will reach 17 and equal the club record. They`ll also be aware that three more wins are needed, this calendar year, to beat the club record of wins that was recorded back in 1961.
However, to do so they`ll travel to the Walkers Bowl without their lucky charm, Gabriel Zakuani. The classy defender, who signed for Posh recently has played the maximum period on loan that he can so is sidelined until the January transfer window opens.
Since signing for Posh, Gabriel has not played in a losing side, please let`s hope that our first game without him ends that run.
With approximately forty-two miles separating the two clubs, it`s no surprise, especially when you consider our promotion aspirations, that Posh have sold their full allocation of away tickets, some 3000 plus.
Those 3000 plus will be delighted that Tom Williams has declared himself fit and with Zakuani absent Chris Westwood is likely to partner Morgan in the heart of the defence.
On the historical front, Posh are something of a bogey team for Leicester. In league competition we`ve played each other nine teams and we`ve won four compared to Leicester`s three. However, if that run is to continue, Posh will have to put up a decent show in containing the Foxes current danger man, Matt Fryatt.
Fryatt, a striker, has made a name for himself this season and in twenty league starts has scored seventeen times, including hat tricks in successive games.
Leicester`s home form is quite impressive and in ten games they`ve won seven, drawn two and lost one scoring sixteen times and only conceding six. A good record that, hopefully, our twin strike-force of Craig Mackail-Smith and Aaron McLean can put a dent in.
Here at Vital Posh, we`re anticipating this game will be a close affair. Posh will not be as gung-ho as many think and may well take a cautious approach, especially with Darren Ferguson already implying it is a game we cannot afford to lose if we are to keep in touch with those chasing the automatic promotion places.
We`re not going to make any bold and brash statements but we believe that Posh can sneak a draw, possibly 1-1, and that unbeaten run will have been stretched to seventeen.
Come on Posh - you can do it!
