'If It's Football, It's Vital'

Posh - FA Cup Team News

On the eve of the first round clash with AFC Hornchurch, Darren Ferguson has dropped strong hints as to what his starting eleven may be.

The boss has implied in his pre-match interview that the back five will be as per normal but that there may be changes elsewhere as he seeks to give some of his fringe players some much needed action.

The changes may mean a rest for top scorer Craig Mackail-Smith or for George Boyd as Ferguson seeks to give Dominic Green and Sergio Torres the opportunity to start.

Ahead of the clash, this is what he had to say,

'There are players in our squad like Sergio and Dominic who need to play 90 minutes and this should be an ideal opportunity."

'There are also a couple of lads who could do with a rest. Aaron does not come into that category as he as missed enough games already, but I could leave Craig or George out."

'I haven't completely made my mind up yet, but I will still be fielding a very strong side. It's great to have Dean back because he is an important player for us.'

However, Darren, as the interview continued, was quick to point out that he`s not taking the competition (FA Cup) lightly remarking,

'I'm not taking the competition or the opposition lightly on Sunday."

'We had a great run to the fourth round last season and gained an attractive tie against West Brom."

'That game attracted a lot of attention in the city so it would be great to reach the third round and be drawn against one of the really big hitters."

'I will send out a team good enough to win the game at Hornchurch. The first-choice defence and goalkeeper will all play and I expect a good performance.'

My preference would be a third round tie away to one of the big four, what a fantastic day out that would be.
