Posh 2 Hereford United 0

Posh kept their unbeaten run going and climbed to sixth in League One with a 2-0 win over Hereford United at London Road on Saturday.

In a keenly contested affair two goals from our leading scorer, Craig Mackail-Smith, saw Darren Ferguson`s team keep alive hopes of back-to-back promotions.

However, all credit to Hereford United who proved to be difficult opposition on a day when the conditions were not, how we might say, the best.

Indeed, it took a fine performance from our keeper, Joe Lewis, to ensure the three points went our way as Hereford created more shots on target than we did and forced corner after corner as they tried to get back into the game.

After the 1-1 draw at Crewe on Tuesday night, Darren kept faith with his starting eleven. For the opposition, it was strange to see a name form the Premier League, in Bruno N`Gotty, playing for them.

Unfortunately for the visitors, the defenders game was to last only nine minutes before he was carried away on a stretcher with an ankle injury.

Posh should have opened the scoring through Whelpdale but he spurned the opportunity and we had Joe Lewis to thank for a great save to deny Beckwith as Hereford looked to open the scoring.

Posh then lost Whelpdale through injury and Batt came on to deputise. The breakthrough came in the 35th minute via the penalty spot, when Broadhurst was harshly adjudged to have handled whilst lying on the ground.

Mackail-Smith saw Randolph get a hand to his spot kick but the keeper couldn`t stop the forward from powering home the rebound.

Hereford responded well after the break and Lewis had to produce an outstanding save from Hudson-Obi to keep the scores level.

Posh needed a second goal to calm their nerves and it came in the 68th minute after George Boyd surged forward and provided the perfect cross for Mackail-Smith to head home his 12th goal of the season.

Here`s hoping the unbeaten run continues next weekend.
