Posh Sign Wycombe Right-Back

Out-of-contract Wycombe right-back Russell Martin has agreed a transfer to Peterborough, signing a three-year contract with the club (which will become rubber stamped on July 1st) much to the delight of boss Darren Ferguson: 'He's a very consistent player and is flexible,' Ferguson told BBC Radio Cambridgeshire. 'His main position is right-back which is what we've brought him in to do but he can play midfield and centre-half.

'He never missed a game last season, was Wycombe's best player and I'm really pleased to get him.'

Having lost Claude Gnakpa, who failed to agree terms on a new contract, Martin will make and ideal replacement but as he is under 24 he will not qualify for a Bosman free transfer and a compensation fee will be required, although this isn't a worry to Ferguson who added: 'Obviously we're going to have to pay some sort of fee but I wouldn't imagine it would be too high.'

Martin feels the move is a very good step in the right direction: 'The ambition of the chairman and the management team is brilliant and I see this move as a new challenge,' Martin told the official website. 'I wanted to play at a higher level and further my career.'

Do you feel that Russell Martin is a good signing for Posh?
